Blue Mountains City Church Women

In May last year, 120 women gathered together and Pastor Marilyn presented the need of the AIDS and war affected children of northern Uganda. We took on the challenge to raise enough money to build a house for 8 orphans and one widow, in the Watoto Village which is an initiative of Watoto Child Care Ministries, founded in 1992 by Pastors Gary and Marilyn Skinner. Watoto villages provide holistic care to the children that live in the homes, which consist of 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, living area, and bathroom with clean running water. There are clusters of these homes in the Watoto villages, which are built to become self-sustaining, each with a primary and secondary school, a medical clinic, a church / community centre, an agricultural project supplying food, a clean water source and electric power.
 
As women, we are well on our way to raising the $38,000.00 needed to build a house, with individuals as well as groups of girls planning and putting on various types of fund raising events, which have the capacity to reach out and build bridges to our unchurched community. Already, funds have been raised through a movie night, a shopping trip, garage sales, pot luck dinners, and stalls, as well as generous donations. In addition, we are planning larger events that will involve the whole church and the local neighbourhood. One such event in the planning stage is a bush dance that will be held in the Mount Riverview Public School hall later this year.
